Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary is supporting Kling & Bang facilitating the institution’s annual curatorial program. This collaboration came at a pivotal moment for Kling & Bang as it opened a new exhibition and project space in the renovated Marshall House, situated in the Grand Harbor district in Reykjavík, sharing the building with The Living Art Museum, Ólafur Elíasson, and a new restaurant.

Kling & Bang is a non-profit artist-run space established by ten artists in the beginning of 2003, marking a noticeably long life span for an artist-run space in Iceland. The aim of Kling & Bang is to introduce the work of emerging and established, national and international artists that challenge the context and content of creative thinking.

TBA21 has intense working relationships with many Icelandic artists, such as Olafur Eliasson, Ragnar Kjartansson, Finnbogi Petursson, and Jónsi, who have all realized major commissions for the foundation. Since its beginning, TBA21 is supporting the vital Icelandic art and music scene and has hosted performances by Icelandic artists all over the world.

TBA21 and Kling & Bang have collaborated successfully in the past, bringing exciting work to Reykjavík. In 2005 TBA21 commissioned Christoph Schlingensief’s Animatograph – Iceland Edition. Destroy Thingvellir for the Reykjavik Arts Festival at KlinK & BanK, a dynamic art center run by Kling & Bang for two years. In 2013, TBA21 and Kling & Bang collaborated on bringing Kjartansson’s immersive video installation, The Visitors to Kling & Bang.
