Following the success of the exhibition Purple by John Akomfrah from the TBA21 collection in 2018. In  2019 TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary signed a four-year agreement with the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza to present a series of contemporary art exhibitions from the TBA21 collection at the museum and an associated public programme aimed at attracting new audiences. Two exhibitions a year have been presented in the Moneo Temporary Exhibition Hall on the ground floor of the museum including artists Amar Kanwar, Tomás Saraceno, Dominique Gonzalez Foerster, Joan Jonas, Claudia Comte, Walid Raad and Ragnar Kjartansson as well as the group show "Avanzar con paso leve" and the special project Western Flag by artist John Gerrard during Cop 25 Madrid. 

As part of TBA21’s mission, the exhibition involves conferences, artists talks and collaborations with other leading organisations, including MediaLab, a leading organisation in art and digital production, the Teatro Real Opera House, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Museo del Prado, Universidad Complutense, Universidad de Nebrija, WWF, other cultural organisations and NGOs as well as the participation of the director of CNIO (National Cancer Research Centre) for one of the talks.

Major performances programmes, artists talks, and conferences with contemporary artists, are presented as part of TBA21’s public activity. Two Drops per Heartbeat by Walid Raad, The Day that Wood and Matter Wanted to Become Salt Water by Claudia Comte and with movement by Cecilia Bengolea, and Moving Off The Land II by Joan Jonas, are some of these newly commissioned performances.
