The Copy is a Meta-Original (Fig.60) belongs to the series of paintings, where Jose Davilá conjugates image captions, carefully selected from the book The Origins of Drawing, with graphic works from different stages of the history of art. The artist has removed the images of the book, keeping the original captions that describe the drawings found on the walls of the Cave of Altamira, which have been listed as the early history of painting. Over these empty frames, Dávila overlaps graphic works from Russian Constructivism and Brazilian Neo-Concrete Movement. The non-corresponding relation created by the content disruption between image and description questions our processes of associating an abstract idea with a figurative image.
