Abundant Futures in Troubled Times weaves together the voices of artists from different generations and multiple geographies in an attempt to imagine ecological futures through the prism of abundance and fullness. Curated by Daniela Zyman, the exhibition offers insights into the collecting and commissioning practices developed at TBA21 over the years and to encounter some of the most important works in the collection.

The opening of Abundant Futures in Troubled Times will be accompanied by a series of public activities, including commented visits to the exhibition, workshops, and performances by Rivane Neuenschander, Patricia Domínguez, on October 19, 2022 and Allora & Calzadilla, and Tarek Atoui on October 22, 2022.

12 pm – Rivane Neuenschwander, Espécie bandeira (Flagship species). An artist-led public workshop project revolving around the intersections of the rights of nature movement, extractivism, and nation building leading towards the design of a series of flags and banners. Presentation by the workshop participants.

1 pm – Allora & Calzadilla, mains hum, performance. Conceived in collaboration with the conductor Donald Nally and the composer David Lang and performed by the Cordobese vocal ensemble Coro Brouwer and students from the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Córdoba, mains hum is a series of vocal actions that explores the mains hum—the continuous, low humming that buzzes from old or improperly grounded electrical transformers.

4 – 7 pm – Patricia Domínguez, Vegetal MatrixEthnobotanical drawing workshop exploring the multidimensional representation of plants. The workshop proposes a series of critical readings and exercises to deconstruct botanical scientific language and its Western lineage, reconsidering the depiction of plants from an artistic, indigenous, and spiritual point of view.

6 pm – Allora & Calzadilla, main hums, performance.
The performance is presented by the Cordobese vocal ensemble Coro Brouwer and students from the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Córdoba.

"Al Qabali" is a new research and performative project that Tarek Atoui started in 2015 and will premiere in Córdoba with a first solo performance. In "Al Qabali", Atoui layers and conjures sounds according to the Tarab–a trance-inducing Arab musical tradition–, based on a collection of musical recordings of rural traditions from tribes and villages across the Atlas to the Persian Gulf, following the road of the Tuareg people. On his intimate journey, Atoui combines recordings from souks and shops in Essaouira or Marrakech, from weddings in Bahrain, music salons, and diwan majlises in Kuwait, Sharjah, and Oman.
